New Delhi: Two-time Olympic medallist PV Sindhu bowed out of the World Championships on Thursday following a hard-fought, three-game loss to China’s world No. 3 Wang Zhi Yi in the women's singles pre-quarterfinals.

Sindhu, who won the world title in 2019, dropped the opening game before mounting a determined comeback to force a decider. However, Wang held her nerve in the crucial final moments to secure an 11-21, 21-15, 17-21 victory and advance to the next stage.

The defeat ends Sindhu's bid to secure an unprecedented sixth World Championships medal, adding to her collection of gold (2019), silver (2017, 2018), and bronze (2013, 2014). Her exit also marks the end of India's campaign in the women's singles event at the tournament. (PTI)
