Actor Sreenivasan denounces democracy as a flawed system

Kochi: Actor Sreenivasan strongly opposed the democratic system stating it harbors loopholes for corrupt leaders and lacks efficacy in serving the people's interests. The remarks were made after he cast his vote at St. Mary's School in Kandanad.
In an interaction with the media, Sreenivasan claimed that democracy facilitates the escape of wrongdoers. He said, "Whichever party wins will be against us. I am basically against democracy. In a democracy, all thieves have loopholes to escape."
Sreenivasan invoked philosopher Socrates, suggesting that if the ancient thinker were alive today, he would kick the inventor of democracy to death and opt for death by ingesting cheap poison. “Ingesting expensive poison is extravagant. It is better to die with cheap poison,” he said.
Sreenivasan also expressed skepticism about the nation's progress, “When I spoke badly about our democracy, a person who came for leave from Dubai asked; How can anything be right without a system? I said, a person from Dubai should not be asking this. Is Sheikh Mohammed, the ruler of Dubai, a democrat? Is he a member of any party? No. A leader should have at least a little amount of love for their country and people,” said Sreenivasan
While admitting personal admiration for actor Suresh Gopi, Sreenivasan clarified his disinterest in the candidate’s political affiliations, emphasizing his admiration solely for Gopi's persona rather than his party allegiance.
