Education dept to launch legal battle against Kalolsavam appeals

Kozhikode: The general education department is planning to move ahead with a legal battle regarding those students who participated in the Kerala State School Kalolsavam after securing an appeal from the courts. Results of the students who participated in the event through appeals at the district level are being withheld.

The court order only allows students to participate. It did not mandate the authorities to declare their results, claims the department.

As many as 94 students who secured a positive verdict in the appeals attended various events till Friday.

A student, who had participated on the basis of an appeal from Thrissur Municipal Court, approached the same court seeking declaration of results and obtained a favourable verdict. The education department, however, was not ready to comply.

The department has decided to approach high court against the municipal court's verdict.

The HC had rejected multiple appeals one week ahead of the festival. Department hopes for a similar approach from HC this time as well.

Although the judges have handed over the results of these students, it will be made official only after it gets published on the Kalolsavam website. 

First-place finishers at the district level automatically qualify for the state festival. In addition, students have secured participation via favourable orders from local courts. At the state level, only grades will be announced, and not ranks.
