'Flight violently shaking, people on ground': Shocking airport scenes amid Myanmar earthquake

Naypyidaw, Myanmar: The shocking visuals from Mandalay International Airport in Myanmar reveals the destruction caused by a massive 7.7-magnitude earthquake that rocked Myanmar and Thailand on Friday. 

The footage shows a flight violently shaking on the tarmac as the tremors struck, while parts of the airport suffered serious structural damage.

Passengers, gripped by fear, sat on the ground with their heads down as the quake rattled the terminal. Once the shaking subsided, both passengers and airport staff scrambled for safety, navigating through debris and collapsed sections of the facility.

The devastation has pushed Myanmar’s isolated military junta to make a rare appeal for international humanitarian aid. With the country already engulfed in a prolonged civil conflict, authorities declared a state of emergency in six of the worst-hit regions.

The shallow tremor struck northwest of Sagaing in central Myanmar, triggering a powerful aftershock minutes later. The impact was catastrophic—toppling buildings, rupturing roads, and bringing down the well-known Ava Bridge.

In the capital Naypyidaw, a major hospital was declared a "mass casualty area," with hundreds of wounded patients being treated outside due to structural damage. The emergency department’s entrance collapsed onto a parked car.

Across the border in Thailand, at least three people were confirmed dead, and dozens remain trapped after a skyscraper collapsed. Rescuers are racing against time to reach survivors as aftershocks continue to rattle the region.
