Las Vegas: The iconic card game UNO is making a surprising and strategic move into the world of high-end entertainment, with Mattel announcing the launch of its innovative UNO Social Clubs. The first-of-its-kind venue has officially opened its doors at the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas, promising to transform the beloved game into an immersive, upscale social experience rather than a traditional betting game.

Defying expectations of a typical casino table game, the UNO Social Clubs are designed as luxury entertainment spaces. The premier suite at the Palms Casino Resort, unveiled this July, boasts vibrant, card-inspired décor, private game tables, and even dedicated in-room dealers, offering an exclusive and whimsical environment for fans of all ages (and especially adults) to "reimagine game night."

Mattel's vision for these clubs goes beyond simply playing classic UNO. The initiative introduces new and intensified variations of the game tailored for a more competitive and interactive social setting. Among the exciting new modes are:

  • UNO Golf™: A strategic twist where players aim to achieve the lowest score by cleverly clearing high-value cards.
  • UNO Teams™: A collaborative version requiring both players in a pair to empty their hands to secure victory for their team.
  • UNO Show 'em No Mercy™: An intense, no-holds-barred rendition featuring brutal new rules and stacked penalties designed to test even the most seasoned UNO players.

"We created UNO Social Clubs to reimagine game night — blending real-world fun, competition, and connection," stated Ray Adler, VP and Global Head of Games at Mattel, at the time of the announcement. He emphasised the goal of fostering in-person interaction and creating memorable experiences.

While not a direct gambling format where players place monetary bets on game outcomes, the UNO Social Clubs clearly aim to tap into the experiential entertainment market, often associated with casino resorts. The concept includes customised UNO-themed drink menus, opportunities for tournament-style play, and engaging social activities at various venues.

The Las Vegas launch at the Palms Casino Resort marks the beginning of a broader national rollout. Mattel plans to open more UNO Social Clubs in major U.S. cities throughout 2025, suggesting a significant investment in bringing this unique brand of interactive, competitive fun to a wider audience.
