Beijing: Following a powerful 8.8-magnitude earthquake off Russia's Far Eastern Kamchatka Peninsula earlier today, tsunami warnings have been specifically issued for the coastal regions of China, Peru, and Ecuador, prompting immediate alerts and precautionary measures in these distant Pacific Rim nations.

Authorities in China are anticipating tsunami waves ranging between 30 centimetres and one metre along parts of its eastern seaboard. The Ministry of Natural Resources' Tsunami Advisory Centre has indicated that these waves are "expected to cause damage to certain coastal areas of China," urging coastal communities to remain vigilant.

In Peru, the Navy swiftly issued a tsunami alert for its entire coast. Following an assessment by the National Tsunami Warning Centre, a statement from the Directorate of Hydrography and Navigation of the Peruvian Navy confirmed that the seismic event "generates a tsunami warning for the Peruvian coast."

Ecuador has also taken significant action, ordering "preventive evacuations" for beaches, docks, and low-lying areas, particularly within the sensitive Galapagos Islands. Ecuador's Secretariat for Risk Management confirmed that a "tsunami warning has been established for the Insular Region (Galapagos), which indicates the immediate suspension of maritime activities, as well as preventive evacuations."

While the initial impacts of the massive earthquake were felt in Russia and Japan, the propagation of tsunami waves across the Pacific has brought the threat to these distant shores. Local authorities in China, Peru, and Ecuador are actively monitoring the situation and have advised their coastal populations to adhere strictly to all official safety instructions and evacuation orders.
