Trump calls Norway a ‘shit house country’ over Nobel snub, says Norwegians not welcome in US

Port Huron (United States): US President Donald Trump has attacked Norway over the decision to deny him the Nobel Peace Prize, using vulgar language to describe the country and saying Norwegian immigrants would not be welcome in the United States.
Speaking at a campaign rally in Port Huron, Michigan, on Sunday, Trump said he would welcome immigrants from certain countries but exclude those from Norway because he had not received the prestigious award.
“Frankly, Norway sucks. Norway has become a shit house country, actually,” Trump said.
He added that he did not want immigrants from Norway because he had been overlooked for the Nobel Peace Prize. There was no official indication of any new US immigration policy targeting Norwegian nationals.

Trump renews criticism of Nobel Peace Prize decision
Trump has repeatedly expressed his desire to win the Nobel Peace Prize since returning to the White House in January 2025. He has criticised the committee’s decision to award this year’s prize to South African judge and former UN human rights chief Navi Pillay, calling the choice “a disgraceful and embarrassing decision”.
Trump has argued that he deserved the award instead.
The Nobel Committee operates independently, and the Norwegian government does not decide who receives the prize.

Norway says Nobel Committee is independent
Norwegian Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide responded to Trump’s remarks on Monday, reiterating that the Nobel Committee is independent.
“He knows very well that the Nobel Committee is independent. We have reminded him of that, in case anyone is wondering- and that is still the case,” Eide told Norway’s public broadcaster NRK.
Trump’s comments come ahead of the US midterm elections on November 3, with the president campaigning in support of Republican candidates.
Trump faced backlash over similar remarks in 2018
Trump has previously drawn criticism for using vulgar language to describe other countries. In 2018, during his first term as president, he faced backlash after making similar remarks about Haiti and certain African countries.
His latest comments have again brought his rhetoric on immigration and foreign relations into focus, although officials have not announced any change in US policy towards Norwegian immigrants.
