Should’ve got Nobel Prize 4 or 5 times by now: Donald Trump

Washington: US President Donald Trump has once again reignited his claim to the Nobel Peace Prize, saying he should have won it “four or five times” for his role in mediating several global conflicts. His remarks came shortly after Pakistan formally nominated him for the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize for what it described as “decisive diplomatic intervention and pivotal leadership” during the recent India-Pakistan standoff.
Speaking to reporters on Friday, Trump said, “They should give me the Nobel Prize for Rwanda and if you look, the Congo, or you could say Serbia, Kosovo, you could say a lot of them. The big ones are India and Pakistan. I should have gotten it four or five times.”
Pakistan backs Trump’s bid
The Pakistani government publicly endorsed Trump’s candidacy via a statement on X, highlighting his diplomatic role during the India-Pakistan crisis. The post read: “President Donald J. Trump deserves the Nobel Peace Prize in 2026 in recognition of his decisive diplomatic intervention and pivotal leadership during the recent India-Pakistan crisis.”
Trump has often maintained that he helped reduce tensions between the two nuclear-armed neighbours, claims that the Indian government has consistently denied or downplayed.
Mentions Congo-Rwanda Treaty, offers no proof
In his comments, Trump also alluded to a forthcoming peace agreement between the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Rwanda, a conflict that has flared again in recent months.
He said the deal would be signed on Monday and credited his administration with facilitating the agreement. However, no independent confirmation of US involvement in such a treaty has emerged.
Blames bias in Nobel selections
Trump further suggested that the Nobel Peace Prize committee has political leanings.
“They won't give me a Nobel Peace Prize because they only give it to liberals,” he claimed.
Although Trump has been nominated several times in the past, particularly for his role in the Abraham Accords, which normalised relations between Israel and several Arab nations, he has never been awarded the prize.
Nobel committee yet to comment
The Nobel Peace Prize is awarded annually by the Norwegian Nobel Committee, which assesses candidates based on their efforts to promote peace and resolve international conflicts.
The committee has never publicly responded to Trump’s assertions or any nominations involving him.
