Russian oil row: Kremlin rejects proposed 100% US tariffs, says new India nuclear plant talks awaited

Russia has strongly objected to the proposed US move to impose tariffs of up to 100% on countries purchasing Russian crude oil, calling such measures illegal and unacceptable.

The remarks come at a time when India remains at the centre of the global debate over Russian oil imports.

Alongside the Russian oil issue, Kremlin presidential spokesperson Dmitry Peskov also indicated that Moscow is looking ahead to further cooperation with India in the civil nuclear sector.

According to him, Russia is waiting for negotiations with India on the establishment of new nuclear power plants.

The statement signals that energy cooperation between the two countries is not limited to crude oil, with nuclear power continuing to feature prominently in the broader India-Russia partnership. Discussions on additional Russian-supported nuclear projects in India have been underway, including plans linked to future reactor projects.
