Over 70 people missing after boat sinks in central Mediterranean

Rome: Dozens of people are missing after a migrant boat sank in the central Mediterranean, the NGOs Mediterranea Saving Humans and Sea-Watch said Sunday.
Two people died, and 32 were rescued from the boat, which had left Libya on Saturday afternoon with around 105 people on board, according to Mediterranea Saving Humans on X.
The vessel, which had departed from Tajoura in Libya with women, men and children on board, overturned in a search-and-rescue zone under Libyan control. Rescue efforts by merchant ships in the area led to the recovery of 32 survivors and two bodies.
The incident occurred about 14 nautical miles northeast of the ENI-NOC oil platforms in Bouri. The rescued people were brought ashore in Lampedusa.
