Three killed, one injured in shooting in Australia’s New South Wales town

Three people were killed and another was seriously injured in a shooting incident on Thursday in Lake Cargelligo, a small town in Australia’s New South Wales state, police said.

Emergency services rushed to the scene after receiving reports of gunfire at a local address. Police confirmed that two women and one man died, while another man was taken to hospital in serious but stable condition.

The suspected shooter or shooters remain at large. Authorities issued geo-targeted text alerts, urging residents to stay indoors and avoid the area while investigations continue.

The incident occurred on Australia’s National Day of Mourning, when the country was remembering victims of a recent mass shooting in Sydney.

Authorities say the two alleged Sydney gunmen were inspired by the Islamic State group to carry out Australia's worst mass shooting since 1996.
