France offers full support for US-Iran peace deal as Middle East tensions peak

Paris: French President Emmanuel Macron stated Monday that he has urged his US counterpart, Donald Trump, to sustain his persistent diplomatic initiatives aimed at brokering a ceasefire agreement with Iran to conclude the conflict in the Middle East.
During a telephonic conference held on Sunday evening, Macron conveyed his endorsement of the current administration's diplomatic strategy via a public statement published on the social media platform X.
"I welcomed the determined efforts he is making to swiftly reach an agreement between the United States and Iran, which represents a unique opportunity to build a new security framework that brings together all the parties concerned, in order to allow for lasting stabilisation of the region," Macron stated.
The geopolitical dialogue occurs as Tehran maintains that a comprehensive cessation of hostilities in Lebanon remains an absolute prerequisite for finalising any bilateral accord with Washington. The diplomatic impasse has intensified following recent military developments, including the Israeli military's seizure of a medieval fortress in southern Lebanon amid expanding ground manoeuvres targeting the Iran-backed militant organisation Hezbollah.
The French head of state emphasised his alignment with the American administration regarding the preservation of Lebanese state institutions during the ongoing military theatre.
"I also welcomed President Trump's commitment to Lebanon's sovereignty and territorial integrity, and underscored the importance of a robust ceasefire and of our collective support for the Lebanese authorities," Macron wrote.
