India sends 1,400 kgs of anti-cancer drugs to Syria as humanitarian aid

New Delhi: India has sent approximately 1,400 kilograms of anti-cancer drugs to Syria as part of its humanitarian assistance efforts, according to the Ministry of External Affairs. This shipment reflects India’s commitment to supporting Syria, a country with which India has long-standing friendly relations.
"India sends humanitarian assistance to Syria. In keeping with its humanitarian commitments, India has despatched anti-cancer drugs to Syria," the official spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs, Randhir Jaiswal wrote on X Friday, sharing a post of the consignment with pictures.
"The consignment of approx 1400 kgs will support the Syrian government and its people combat the disease," the post added.
The Indian Embassy in Syria has remained operational throughout the ongoing conflict, serving tourists, businesspeople, and patients from Syria. India and Syria have a history of strong people-to-people connections, and India has greatly supported Syrian youth through scholarships and training programs under the ITEC scheme.
In May, Syria's First Lady, Asma Assad, was diagnosed with leukemia, as reported by a state news agency. She has been identified with Acute Myeloid Leukemia after a series of medical tests. Asma Assad, who was born in London to Syrian parents, previously recovered from breast cancer in 2019.
