Tehran: The Indian embassy in Tehran on Wednesday issued a fresh advisory for Indian nationals currently in Iran, urging them to leave the country by any available means of transport as violent anti-government protests continue to escalate across the Islamic Republic.

The notice serves as a significant update to the previous advisory issued by the Government of India on January 5, reflecting a worsening security situation.

“In view of the evolving situation in Iran, Indian nationals who are currently in Iran (students, pilgrims, business persons and tourists) are advised to leave Iran by available means of transport, including commercial flights,” the embassy stated in the advisory.

Embassy Guidelines for Citizens

The embassy has outlined several critical safety measures for Indian citizens and Persons of Indian Origin (PIOs) remaining in the country:

  • Avoid Protests: All nationals are reiterated to exercise extreme caution and strictly avoid areas where demonstrations or protests are taking place.
  • Documentation: Citizens are requested to keep their travel and immigration documents, including passports and national IDs, readily available at all times.
  • Stay Connected: The embassy urged Indians to stay in constant contact with the mission in Tehran and monitor local media for real-time developments.

Registration and Emergency Helplines

Acknowledging the potential for communication gaps, the embassy has asked all Indian nationals who have not yet registered with the mission to do so immediately via the official portal (meaers.com/request/home).

"In case any Indian national is unable to register due to internet disruptions in Iran, their families in India are requested to do so," the statement added.

The embassy has also activated several emergency helpline numbers for those requiring immediate assistance:

  • Mobile: +989128109115; +989128109109; +989128109102; +989932179359
  • Email: cons.tehran@mea.gov.in

The situation in Iran remains volatile, with reports indicating a significant death toll and widespread civil unrest. The Indian government continues to monitor the developments closely as it prioritises the safety of its diaspora in the region.
