Saudi Arabia's air defences intercepted a ballistic missile fired towards Riyadh early Monday, according to the Saudi-led military coalition, as the kingdom faced renewed attacks claimed by Yemen's Houthi group.

Coalition spokesperson Turki Al-Malki announced the interception in a post on X, saying the missile had been launched towards the Saudi capital by the Houthis.

The latest incident follows a series of attacks claimed by the group on Sunday, including an alleged strike on King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh. The Houthis said they had launched multiple ballistic missiles targeting Saudi Arabia.

The airport had resumed flight operations on Sunday following disruptions linked to the attacks. The renewed missile threat comes amid escalating hostilities between the Houthis and the Saudi-led coalition.

The coalition has reported intercepting several missiles and drones in recent days, as fighting intensifies following the collapse of a years-long truce between the Houthis and Yemen's Riyadh-backed government.
