Abu Dhabi halts Habshan gas plant after missile debris hits site; Indian among 3 injured

Abu Dhabi: Authorities have temporarily halted operations at the Habshan gas complex following a fire triggered by an aerial engagement early Wednesday, according to the Abu Dhabi Media Office.

The disruption occurred after a missile, intercepted by the emirate’s air defence systems, rained debris upon the sprawling industrial facility. The media office confirmed the cause of the blaze in a statement released via X, noting that the fire was a direct result of the falling shrapnel from the successful interception.

Casualties and Emergency Response

In addition to the physical damage at the complex, the incident resulted in three injuries. Officials identified the victims as two Emirati citizens and one Indian national. While the severity of their injuries was not immediately disclosed, they are reportedly receiving medical attention.

Emergency crews were deployed to the Habshan site to contain the flames and assess the integrity of the infrastructure. The suspension of operations is described as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of personnel and the security of the facility's gas processing units.
