US-Israeli strike: Girls’ school in Iran hit; death toll climbs to 85

# News Desk

Dubai:The death toll from Saturday’s attack on a girls’ school in southern Iran has risen to 85, the judiciary said, following US and Israeli strikes on the country.

“The number of martyrs at the girls' school in Minab has increased to 85,” the judiciary’s Mizan Online website quoted the local prosecutor’s office as saying.

State-run reports earlier put the death toll at at least 40, with at least 45 others wounded. The attack struck Minab city in Hormozgan province, home to a base of Iran’s paramilitary Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.

Neither the United States nor Israel has provided details of the campaign. No immediate statement clarified why the school was targeted.

Strikes reported nationwide

The United States and Israel launched what was described as a major attack on Saturday. Some of the first strikes appeared to hit areas around the offices of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

Iranian media reported strikes nationwide. Smoke could be seen rising from the capital, signalling the scale of the assault.

It was not immediately clear whether the 86-year-old leader was inside his offices at the time. There was no official confirmation regarding his whereabouts during the attack.

The developments unfolded rapidly, with reports emerging from multiple cities within hours of the initial strikes.

Trump calls for uprising

US President Donald Trump addressed the Iranian public directly following the launch of the operation.

He called on citizens to “seize control of your destiny” and rise up against the Islamic leadership that has ruled the nation since 1979.

His remarks came as images of smoke and damaged sites circulated in Iranian media. There has been no immediate response from Tehran regarding the comments.

The situation remains tense, with limited official information released by either Washington or Jerusalem about the objectives or duration of the campaign.
