Trump assassination attempt: FBI identifies shooter

Butler: In a developing investigation, the FBI has "tentatively identified" the shooter who wounded former US President Donald Trump.
According to a statement made by Special Agent Kevin Rojek during a press conference late Saturday night, the FBI informed that the shooter who wounded former president was identified.
Although fhe FBI initially refused to reveal the suspect's identity without a DNA test. However, after media reports mentioned the name, the FBI confirmed it.
"The FBI has identified Thomas Matthew Crooks, 20, of Bethel Park, Pennsylvania, as the person involved in the assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump on July 13 in Butler, Pennsylvania," the FBI said in a statement.
Witnesses, photos, and videos show that Crooks was positioned about 130-150 yards from the stage at the Butler Farm Showgrounds, where the presidential campaign event was taking place. Earlier indicating significant progress in the investigation, Rojek had stated that "At this time, we are not prepared to identify who the shooter is. We are close to an identification."
Officials said the man who opened fire was a 20-year-old from Pennsylvania.
Asked if law enforcement did not know the shooter was on the roof until he began firing, Kevin Rojek, Special Agent in Charge, FBI Pittsburgh field office, responded, “that is our assessment at this time.”
“It is surprising” that the shooter was able to get off as many rounds as were fired, Rojek said. He added that “all the details of that will come out later investigation.”
Despite the alarming nature of the incident, he emphasised that there is no ongoing threat to the public. "We have no reason to believe that there is any other existing threat out there," he added, aiming to reassure the public and mitigate any fears of further attacks.
Donald Trump was shot at an election rally in a possible assassination attempt just a day before the Republican Party is scheduled to begin its convention to formally declare him its nominee for the White House.
Former US President Trump, who was injured in the attack, is currently recovering. Medical professionals have not disclosed detailed information about his condition, but sources close to the family have indicated that he is stable and receiving excellent care.
The attempted assassination has sparked a wave of reactions both domestically and internationally. Political figures and leaders worldwide have expressed their shock and condemnation of the violence. Many have called for unity and the importance of maintaining the safety and security of political leaders.
