NORKA Care health scheme hits 1 lakh enrollment milestone; protection kicks off November 1st

Thiruvananthapuram: NORKA Care, the pioneering health and accident insurance scheme for expatriate Keralites and their families, has crossed a major milestone by enrolling over one lakh beneficiaries within just 40 days since its launch on September 22, 2025. This marks a historic first in the country where a state government has implemented a health insurance program dedicated exclusively to expatriates.
The comprehensive scheme is implemented by the Kerala government through NORKA Roots and offers health insurance coverage of Rs 5 lakh and group personal accident insurance of Rs 10 lakh per family. The enrollment drive, which attracted extensive participation from the global expatriate community and expatriate organisations, will see protection come into effect from November 1, 2025—Kerala Piravi Day.
An official ceremony to hand over the insurance certificates will be held on November 1 in the presence of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan at the Chief Minister’s Chamber. The handover will be conducted by NORKA Roots Resident Vice Chairman P Sreeramakrishnan, New India Insurance Deputy General Manager Joyce Satheesh, and NORKA Roots CEO Ajit Kolassery.
The scheme provides cashless treatment through approximately 18,000 hospitals across India, including over 500 hospitals in Kerala. Expatriates holding valid NORKA Pravasi ID, Student ID, or NRK ID cards are eligible to enrol. The premium for a family floater covering spouse and two children under 25 years is ₹13,411, with added options for extra children. Individual personal insurance is priced at ₹8,101.
With nearly two lakh expatriate Keralites having utilised the NORKA expat ID card service this financial year alone, NORKA Care reinforces Kerala’s commitment to the well-being and security of its expatriate population. The move has been widely welcomed as a landmark initiative in providing health security to the global Malayali community.
