Baby Pereppadan from Angamaly becomes first Malayali Mayor of Dublin

Dublin: In a major achievement, Baby Pereppadan, a native of Angamaly, has been elected as the new Mayor of South Dublin County Council. This is the first time an Indian-origin person has been elected to this top position in Ireland.

Pereppadan received the mayoral insignia from former mayor Alan Edge during the county council's first meeting yesterday. This honour follows his successful second term as the Fine Gael Party representative for Tallaght South in the county council elections held earlier this month.

Hailing from Puliyanam in Angamaly, Baby Pereppadan is one of the earliest Indian immigrants to Ireland. He has made an impact on Dublin's socio-cultural landscape over the years. His commitment and contributions to the community have been widely recognised, culminating in his election to the mayoral position.

Pereppadan’s family has also made significant contributions to Irish society. His wife, Jincy Pereppadan, serves as an Advanced Nurse Practitioner at Peamount Healthcare Hospital in Newcastle, Dublin. Their children are equally accomplished, with son Britto Pereppadan serving as a successful councillor from Tallaght Central and daughter Brona Pereppadan pursuing dental medicine at Trinity College Dublin.

The news of Pereppadan’s election was met with congratulations from many quarters, including Fine Gael Party Leader and Prime Minister of Ireland, Simon Harris. Harris personally called to commend Baby Pereppadan and his family on this proud achievement, highlighting the importance of their contributions to the community.
