Today's (05.09.2026) gold prices: Know city-wise rates and what they mean for buyers, investors

Retail gold prices in India dropped on Saturday (05-09-2026), bringing some relief to household buyers. The cooling comes after a volatile trading week. A stronger rupee has helped cushion the local market from high international bullion rates.
Today, high-purity 24-karat gold (99.9% purity) is priced at ₹15,480 per gram, down by ₹186 from the previous rate. Standard 22-karat gold (91.6% purity), which is preferred for traditional jewellery, stands at ₹14,190 per gram, showing a decrease of ₹170. For those looking at 18-karat gold (75% purity), the price has dropped to ₹11,610 per gram, a decline of ₹139.
Full regional breakdown and rates
Local prices vary across regions due to local market factors. Chennai registers the highest prices in the country, where 24-karat gold costs ₹15,667 per gram, 22-karat is ₹14,361, and 18-karat is ₹12,131. Delhi is slightly cheaper, listing 24-karat at ₹15,495, 22-karat at ₹14,205, and 18-karat at ₹11,625. In Gujarat's trading hubs of Ahmedabad and Vadodara, rates settle at ₹15,485 for 24-karat, ₹14,195 for 22-karat, and ₹11,615 for 18-karat.
Meanwhile, key gold-consuming regions have aligned exactly with the national baseline. Kerala, a major hub for physical gold demand, matches this standard rate with 24-karat at ₹15,480, 22-karat at ₹14,190, and 18-karat at ₹11,610 per gram. Mumbai, Kolkata, Bangalore, Hyderabad, and Pune share these identical pricing levels.
Market triggers and expert predictions for investors
This easing of local retail prices follows a minor slide on the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX). October gold futures fell 0.28 per cent to settle at ₹1.55 lakh per 10 grams on Friday. A key domestic driver is the Indian rupee, which strengthened by 0.5 per cent to 94.4850 against the US dollar. This currency appreciation lowers the overall cost of importing gold into India.
For physical gold buyers, high baseline prices mean we might see a more staggered purchasing pattern during the upcoming festive and wedding seasons. Analysts estimate that physical gold will likely trade in a range between ₹1,52,500 and ₹1,57,500 per 10 grams in the near term.
For commodity and stock market investors, technical experts point out a major resistance hurdle at ₹1.60 lakh. Breaking past this level could push prices toward ₹1.65 lakh to ₹1.70 lakh. On the downside, the key support safety net sits between ₹1.50 lakh and ₹1.52 lakh, with a drop below ₹1.48 lakh threatening to weaken the current bullish trend.
