SAIL achieves record-breaking December sales: 2.1 million tonnes sold

New Delhi: Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) has reported its highest-ever sales volume for the month of December, clocking 2.1 million tonnes (MT), a 37 per cent increase over the 1.5 MT recorded in December 2024, according to a company statement issued on Monday.

The Maharatna public sector steel major said this was its best December performance to date, with strong growth across product categories and sales channels, alongside a significant reduction in inventory. The surge was driven by a continued focus on timely customer deliveries and renewed branding and market outreach initiatives.

The strong December showing helped SAIL maintain its growth momentum in FY 2025–26, with cumulative sales of 14.7 MT during April–December 2025, marking a 17 per cent rise from 12.6 MT in the same period last year.

In addition to robust domestic demand, export volumes also rose sharply, highlighting SAIL’s expanding global footprint.

Company officials said the sustained improvement reflects SAIL’s strengthened market presence, customer-focused strategies and operational efficiency. The performance across domestic and international markets is expected to further reinforce the company’s position among India’s leading steel producers and improve its global ranking.

December marked the second consecutive month of double-digit growth for SAIL, following a 27 per cent rise in sales in November.

During the April–November 2025 period, the company achieved 12.7 MT of sales, registering a 14 per cent increase over 11.1 MT in the corresponding period of the previous year.

SAIL attributed the strong growth to higher sales across multiple product segments and distribution channels, including domestic saleable steel, road dispatches and door deliveries from warehouses.
