Last rites of Confident Group Chairman CJ Roy held; SIT to investigate death

The last rites of Confident Group Chairman CJ Roy, who allegedly died by suicide on January 30, were held in Bengaluru on Sunday morning.

Roy was found dead at his office in Langford Town, Bengaluru, on Friday, with a gunshot injury, police said.

In view of the seriousness of the case, Bengaluru Police Commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh, IPS, has constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the death. The SIT will be headed by Joint Commissioner of Police (West Zone) C. Vamshi Krishna, IPS. Deputy Commissioner of Police, South Division, Lokesh Jagalasar, IPS, has been appointed as the Investigating Officer.

Deputy Commissioner of Police, Central Division, Akshay Hake, IPS, along with senior officers from various divisions and special units, will also be part of the team. The SIT has been authorised to induct additional officers and deploy resources as required for the investigation.

Roy's brother, Babu, had alleged that he might have taken the extreme step due to pressure from the central agency.

The wife and son of CJ Roy reached the post-mortem centre at Bowring Hospital in Bengaluru on Saturday. His wife, Lina Roy, and son, Rohith Roy, arrived at the hospital mortuary along with Karnataka Pradesh Youth Congress Committee President Mohammed Nalapad.
