Kerala villages to turn into safe haven for techies

Kozhikode: Kerala State Information Technology Infrastructure Limited (KSITIL) has come up with a project for setting up IT companies in villages of the state.

Through the project for ‘Fostering Technologies In Rural Area’ (FOSTeRA); IT, ITEAS and BPO companies will be set up in villages across Kerala. The government has allotted Rs 8.25 crores for initiating the project. 

Under the project, a company with a minimum of 50 employees can be set up in a place which does not fall under the limits of either a municipal council or a corporation. The number of employees per company should not exceed 1000 as well. Options are also available for opening multiple units of a single company in different regions.

Dr Santhosh Babu, who is the managing director of KSITIL, said that the state government is intending to create over 10,000 job opportunities in the rural areas through the project. 

Malayalees constitute a major chunk of the IT employees in India.

Extra financial aid will be provided to companies employing women (50-100 percent), differently abled and transgenders.

Similarly, companies which create more job opportunities, will also be ‘rewarded’ accordingly.

After running successfully for a minimum of three years, the government will hand over an amount to a particular company, which will be equivalent to half of its running expenses in the time period.
