Why Are Gold Prices Moving Today?

Gold prices were under pressure in international markets on Monday as investors booked profits after the metal climbed to a seven-week high in the previous session.

Investors were also watching upcoming US inflation data for clues about the Federal Reserve's interest rate path.

Spot gold was down 0.5% at $4,322.28 per ounce, while US gold futures declined 0.4% to $4,381.60. Gold prices had touched their highest level since June 17 on Friday following weaker-than-expected US jobs data.

The US dollar was also trading near a two-month low against major currencies as investors awaited the inflation data.

Geopolitical developments were another factor in focus. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said Tehran was not currently holding direct talks with the US to end the war with Iran and reopen the Strait of Hormuz, despite Washington's assertions that a deal was near, according to a CNBC US report.
