Gold and silver rates today, October 5: Check prices across India

Gold and silver prices remained subdued in the Indian bullion market on October 5, with rates under pressure across major gold purities. The benchmark price of gold stood at around ₹1,49,040 per 10 grams, while silver was quoted at ₹2,26,380 per kg.

On the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX), gold futures declined 0.98% to ₹1,48,910 per 10 grams. Silver futures, however, moved marginally higher, gaining 0.14% to trade at around ₹2,26,189 per kg at the time of writing.

Retail buyers commonly purchase gold in 24-carat and 22-carat variants.

While 24-carat gold is considered the purest form, 22-carat gold is widely preferred for jewellery because its alloy composition makes it harder and more suitable for everyday use.

Several factors influence gold and silver prices in India, including global bullion prices, US dollar movements against the Indian rupee, and domestic buying trends.

Gold purchases in India attract 3% GST on the metal value, while jewelry-making charges are subject to an additional 5% GST.
