Festive cheer: Modi govt clears ₹6,908 bonus for central govt staff, paramilitary, armed forces

New Delhi: Adding to the festive season cheer, the Modi government has approved an Ad-hoc Bonus for Central government employees.
The Finance Ministry, in an order issued on Monday, announced that Group C and non-gazetted Group B employees will receive a 30-day bonus for the year 2024-25, fixed at ₹6,908.
The bonus will cover all eligible employees who remain in service as of March 31, 2025, with at least six months of continuous service. Those who have worked less than a year will receive the amount on a pro-rata basis.
The Finance Ministry clarified that the bonus will also extend to:
- Personnel of paramilitary forces and the armed forces
- Employees of Union Territories (UTs) following the Central government’s pay structure, provided they don’t receive any other bonus or ex-gratia
- Ad-hoc employees with no service breaks
- Casual labourers, who will receive a fixed bonus of ₹1,184, if they have worked the required number of days in the last three years
How the bonus is calculated
The payout is based on a maximum monthly salary of ₹7,000. Using the formula (7,000 × 30 ÷ 30.4), the amount comes to ₹6,907.89, rounded to ₹6,908.
Key highlights
- Only employees in service as of March 31, 2025, qualify
- Retired, resigned, or deceased employees with six months of service will also be eligible
- Bonus for those on deputation will be disbursed by the organization they serve
- Payments will be rounded to the nearest rupee
This move is expected to benefit millions of Central government staff and security personnel, bringing financial relief and festive joy ahead of the celebrations.
