Mofiya suicide: Two policemen suspended for lapses in preparing custody plea

Aluva: In the Mofiya Parveen suicide case, two policemen were suspended from service over alleged lapses in preparing the custody application. It is reported that the duo accused Youth Congress activists of terrorist links and demanded an inquiry against them. SI Vinod and Grade SI Rajesh were suspended after finding lapses in preparing the custody application.
Police had earlier arrested Youth Congress workers who had taken part in a protest against CI Sudheer in the same case. In an application submitted before the court seeking custody of the Youth Congress activists Al-Ameen, Anas and Najeeb, the police personnel accused the trio of the terrorist links and claimed that a detailed probe should be carried out.
Criticising the move of the police, Congress activists expressed protest and MLA Anwar Sadath lodged a complaint against the custody application of the police.
The action was taken against the two policemen based on the DySP's preliminary report which was prepared after examining the matter as directed by the DGP. The SHO was also asked to give an explanation over the same.
The CI of Munambam has been tasked to conduct a detailed departmental inquiry into the matter. The court had earlier granted bail to all the three accused in the case.
