Youth Congress march turns violent in Kozhikode, police resort to water cannon, tear gas

Kozhikode: The Youth Congress march towards the City Police Commissioner's office here turned violent on Wednesday. Police resort to using water cannons and tear gases to disperse the protestors. 

The march, organised by the district committee of the Youth Congress, condemning the attack on its members by the police and DYFI workers, was inaugurated by YC state president Rahul Mamkootathil.

A clash erupted between the police and the protestors after the latter tried to get past the raised barricades on the roads. Following this, the police used water cannon and tear gas against the protestors.

The Youth Congress workers demanded stringent action against Deputy Commissioner KE Baiju and DYFI workers who had physically assaulted their fellow activists during protest demonstrations against Nava Kerala Sadas.
