Yellow alert in 11 Kerala districts as IMD forecasts isolated heavy rainfall

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Thursday issued a bulletin outlining weather conditions in Kerala over the next five days, placing multiple districts under yellow alert for isolated heavy rainfall.

The bulletin warns of localised spells of heavy showers rather than uniform rainfall across the state.

District-wise alert schedule

According to the forecast, yellow alerts have been declared in the following districts:

April 30 (Thursday): Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam

May 1 (Friday): Kottayam, Idukki, Malappuram, Wayanad

May 2 (Saturday): Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idukki, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur

The alerts indicate the likelihood of isolated heavy rainfall in these regions.

The IMD has clarified that “heavy rainfall” refers to precipitation ranging between 64.5 mm and 115.5 mm within a 24-hour period.

The forecast points to the possibility of strong, localised showers instead of widespread rainfall. Authorities have flagged the need for caution in districts under alert during the specified dates.
