Vulgarity in books boosts sales; Writer T T Padmanabhan’s remarks sparks controversy

Kozhikode: If woman write vulgarity in literature, then it fetches more sales, opined renowned writer T Padmanabhan during an event. Launching the book featuring MC Govindhan’s complete collection of works, the writer expressed his displeasure on sales of ‘vulgarised’ literature written by women which outperform sales of exceptional literary works.

“These kind of books will be published one edition after another. All will have money. All will have money,” he said.

The writer took a dig at the trend of nuns `writing books’ after revoking their vows. He said that they will still keep the designation `sister’ for better sales. The writer pointed out that many such books describing on their bad experiences are coming out.

“Those books are selling like hot cakes,” he added.

Meanwhile, a section of netizens has been calling out his remarks thereby courting a controversy.
