Thiruvananthapuram: A woman auto driver faced public humiliation at the Varkala helipad. The incident occurred as she attempted to earn a livelihood by driving an auto rickshaw.

The 28-year-old woman, a native of Ayroor, was insulted by male auto drivers who questioned her right to operate an auto. Despite the incident being reported to Varkala police station, no action was taken against the perpetrators.

The helipad area, frequented by tourists, witnessed a confrontation between local male auto drivers and the woman. They stopped foreign tourists from boarding her auto. The victim, identified as Sajitha, had been working as a school teacher for the past 17 years. However, due to some reasons, she lost her job recently. She is currently awaiting appointment orders from the LP School Teacher list.

Sajitha's husband went abroad three months ago but has not been able to find a job yet. As she could not afford the household expenses for her three children, she took out a loan from the bank and bought an electric auto under the government scheme. Although she started operating the auto from her home near the helipad, she did not get any profits.

Sajitha demanded legal action against the auto drivers who insulted her in front of the public.
