Thiruvananthapuram: A 33-year-old woman was allegedly beaten to death by her brother on Saturday.

The deceased has been identified as Shefeena, a native of Pothencode. Her brother, Shamsad, has been taken into custody by the Mannanthala police.

Shefeena had arrived at an apartment in Mannanthala on June 14 for a temporary stay as part of her medical treatment. Her parents found her body lying under the bed and informed the police, suspecting foul play.

At the time of the incident, Shamsad and his friend Visakh, a resident of Chempazhanthy, were present in the apartment. Both have been taken into custody for questioning.

According to police, Shefeena's body bore visible signs of assault. The motive behind the attack is yet to be ascertained. A detailed investigation is underway.
