Will not bow down to threats, ready to be a martyr: Vellapally Natesan over minority appeasement row

Alappuzha: There will be no retreating from the statements made about the Left and Right fronts appeasing Muslims despite threats, SNDP yogam General Secretary Vellapally Natesan said. He made this clear in his foreword in ‘Yoganadham’ the mouthpiece publication of SNDP.
‘I have only one thing to say to those who draw their swords against me for speaking the truth, I do not bow down to such threats. I am ready to face the challenge and don’t hesitate to become a martyr for that,’ Vellapally wrote.
‘The LDF has recommended the name of a Muslim and a Christian while UDF has suggested a Muslim to fill the three vacant Rajya Sabha seats. Kerala has nine Rajya Sabha seats of which five are held by Muslims and two by Christians. Hindus, who make up more than half of the population, were given two seats in total by both the fronts. I called out the injustice in this practice,’ he added.
‘Religion is the priority of both the fronts even when deciding who to rally in the elections. Even in hindu majority constituencies, they do not have the courage to change their mindset, evidenced by their scouting of candidates in Kottayam and Malappuram. The CPM and CPI abandoned the faith placed in them by the backward and scheduled communities who have stood rock-solid with the party since its inception to appease the minorities.
Christians chose BJP as their saviour when they couldn’t bear the Muslim appeasement of both fronts and the arrogance shown by the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) and some Muslim organisations. The leadership of Muslim League and Muslim communities should at least think about this change in the minds of those practising other religions and revise their attitude, Vellapally opined.
Meanwhile, the Hindu Aikyavedi backed Vellapally Natesan’s statement regarding minority appeasement. Hindu Aikyavedi state president R.V Babu said that they will not allow Vellappally to be attacked alone for this.
