Wild animals claim 2 more lives in Kerala

Wild animal attack victims: Pallat Abraham, Valsa

Kozhikode: Wild animal attacks claimed the lives of two more people in Kerala on Tuesday. The deaths were reported in Thrissur and Kozhikode.

A 62-year-old woman named Valsa, wife of a tribal hamlet chief Rajan was trampled to death by a wild jumbo in Thrissur's Vazhachal. The incident took place on Tuesday at 3:30 pm. She faced this gruesome attack while she was collecting forest essentials with her husband and daughter. The hamlet chief who was fragile tried to chase away the elephant by making sounds, but the attempt turned futile. Later, colony dwellers who heard his cry for help arrived at the scene and rushed her body to Chalakudy Taluk Hospital.

The deceased is a resident of Vachumaram colony, which lies between Vazhachal and Peringalkuthu Dam.

In another episode, 70-year-old man Pallat Abraham (Avarachan) of Kozhikode's Kakkayam was killed in a bison attack. The attack happened at 3 pm. Abraham faced the bison while he was passing through a farm area near the Kakkayam Dam site road. The wild bison hooked its horns leaving him in a very critical situation. Though he was rushed to the Kozhikode Medical College he was declared dead.

While speaking to the Mathrubhumi.com team, a resident said the attack was so severe that they had no chance of hope and they directly took him to the medical college.

The locals criticised the forest department for not taking any action even after a similar incident took place two months ago, where a mother and kid lost their lives to a wild bison attack.

The new development also comes at a time when human-wildlife conflict-related casualties triggered massive protests in some parts of the state.
