What weapon was used to cause injury? Police say Veena George’s statement needed for clarity

Kannur: Police have said that only after recording the statement of Health Minister Veena George will it be possible to determine what weapon was used to cause the injury. This was stated in a report submitted by the Railway Police, who are investigating the injury sustained by the minister during a KSU protest, before the Kannur Judicial First Class Magistrate Court (II).

The police report opposed the bail plea submitted by KSU activists and stated that the minister’s statement has not yet been recorded due to physical discomfort.

According to the case report, KSU activists allegedly trespassed onto the railway station premises, raised slogans, shouted “kill her,” and lunged at the minister using some kind of weapon, attacking her on the neck. They are also accused of assaulting the gunman who tried to intervene.

Cases have been registered for wrongful restraint and for obstructing the discharge of official duty. The investigating officer, Kozhikode Railway Police Inspector and head of the probe team, informed the court that CCTV footage from areas near the scene is being collected.

As the Public Prosecutor was on leave, the bail plea was adjourned to Monday. Those arrested in the case — KSU district president MC Athul (28), VV Akshay (24), CH Mubas (26), Bithul Balan (23), and Ahmed Yaseen (22) — have been remanded. Within the police department itself, opinions have emerged that an attempt-to-murder charge may not stand, as there is no clear visual evidence of a weapon being used in the attack or of weapon-inflicted injuries on the minister.
