Wedding rush at Guruvayur today as five mandapams host over 260 marriages

Guruvayur: A wedding rush is expected at the Guruvayur Temple premises on Sunday, with the town witnessing a “kalyanapooram” (wedding festival) atmosphere. A total of 262 weddings have been scheduled up to Saturday evening, and the number is likely to increase as bookings will also be accepted on Sunday morning.
In view of the heavy rush, the tying of the thali (mangalsutra) will begin at 4 am. Weddings will be conducted at five mandapams. Wedding parties must collect tokens from the new covered walkway on the southern side of the Melpathur Auditorium.
As usual, brides, grooms and their relatives can wait at the Melpathur Auditorium until their turn for the thali tying. Only 24 people, including photographers, will be permitted near the wedding mandapam.
As is customary during heavy rush, a one-way system will be enforced at the temple entrance on Sunday as well. Devotees entering through the southern gate must proceed to the front of the eastern deepastambham to offer prayers and then take a detour behind the Melpathur Auditorium. After worship, they can directly enter the southern gate pandal. Restrictions will also be in place inside the temple, and adipradakshina and shayanapradakshina will not be permitted on Sunday.
