Water bill payment deadline reduced to 10 days; penalty revised

Thiruvananthapuram: The due date to pay the water bill without penalty has been reduced to 10 days from 30 days. The decision was taken at the Water Authority Board meeting. 

The fine amount was also changed. Earlier, it was Rs 5 for 30 days. The revised fine is 1 percent of the bill amount. It will be increased to 1.5 percent after 30 days.

Non-residential connections are already under this method and the fine is 2 percent of the bill amount.

The changes will be effective from September 1.

The delay in entering the meter readings in the office system will leave only a few days to pay the bill, the users complain.
