VSSC exam cheating case: Police to demand cancellation of exam

Thiruvananthapuram: Police have decided to demand the cancellation of the countrywide Technician Grade B examination, conducted by the Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC), on account of the arrest of two Haryana natives on charges of cheating in Thiruvananthapuram the other day.
According to the police, as many as 469 candidates hailing from Haryana attended the examination leading to further suspicion over fraud. As per police assumption, the accused had come to attend the exam for money and a Haryana-based coaching centre was behind the crime.
On Sunday, the police had apprehended Sumit Kumar (25) and Sunil (25) from Cotton Hill and St Mary's Higher Secondary School respectively. Their address was proved to be fake during verification. They allegedly captured images of the question paper using a mobile phone and sent them to coaching centres in Haryana. They committed the crime using bluetooth headsets, a mini camera and cloud storage, police said.
The accused were arrested by the Medical College and Museum Police. The examination was held in various centres across Thiruvananthapuram. Reportedly, a tip-off indicating possible cheating during the exam prompted officials to investigate, leading to the apprehension of the accused.
