A video of children dressed as characters from the popular Malayalam film Aavesham has been spreading smiles and laughter among netizens.

Interestingly, the video shows ‘Rangannan’ being barred from voting because Amban, true to his character's neglectful nature, fails to remind him to bring his voter ID.

The video features actual footage of a school leader election held at CH Memorial LP School in Kozhikode, along with staged humorous visuals, which make it unique.

Staged visuals

The video captures students portraying police, security personnel, and election officials overseeing a school leader election.

The video starts with a dramatic scene where two police officers step out of a vehicle speeding towards the election booth. Following them are soldiers and election officials, carrying materials to set up the booth.

The highlight comes when characters like Rangannan, despite his popularity, face punishment for breaking election rules—just like real life.

One scene shows a child dressed as a celebrity attempting to skip the voting queue, only to be swiftly reprimanded by other voters. Another moment captures students acting as elderly and disabled citizens being assisted to the polling booth in chairs. The mock police also nab a person trying to cast a fraudulent vote.

Viral sensation

Shared on the school's Instagram account, the video has gone viral, garnering over a million views. Netizens have been entertained by the clever recreation of an election day, while also appreciating the educational value behind it.

The video has received plenty of praise online. One user quipped, “Looks like a film director has become a teacher here!” Others applauded the teachers for their creativity. “This shows the school and teachers have done an excellent job of capturing the essence of election day,” read one comment. Another highlighted the need for such innovative approaches in education, saying, “Beyond certificates, students need to learn how their education impacts society. Kudos to the teachers for pulling this off.”

Who made the video?

The video was shot and edited under the guidance of teachers U. Naseeb, Fahis Kuniyil, and Ajmal Shihad. The clip is set to the backdrop of Sada Kudayana Nethaavu, a song from the 2017 film Ramaleela. According to teachers, the aim was to familiarise students with the election process in a fun and educational way.

The voting process

Just like in actual elections, students who voted had their left index fingers marked with ink. In the end, Muhammad Faizan was elected school leader, with Jella Ameen as the deputy leader and Minsa Hoorin as secretary of the literature club. A competitive campaign preceded the mock election, adding to the excitement on campus.
