Veteran Congress leader and former Idukki MLA Jose Kuttiyani no more

Idukki, Kerala: Veteran Congress leader and former Idukki MLA Jose Kuttiyani passed away on Monday. He was 87.

He died at around 11 am at Kolenchery Medical Mission Hospital. He had been undergoing treatment for age-related ailments. He is the first District Congress Committee (DCC) president of Idukki.

Kuttiyani served for a long period as an All India Congress Committee (AICC) member and a member of the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) executive committee. He had left the Congress following disciplinary action but returned to the party in 2022.

In 2009, he contested the Lok Sabha election as an independent candidate backed by the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP). He later served as the state president of the Trinamool Congress for several years.

The funeral arrangements will be announced later.
