Venjaramoodu mass murder accused Affan attempts suicide in jail; remains in critical condition

Thiruvananthapuram: Affan, the prime accused in the Venjaramoodu mass murder case, attempted suicide inside the Poojappura Central Jail on Sunday.
He allegedly tried to hang himself using a dhoti in the jail’s bathroom. He was immediately rushed to the Thiruvananthapuram Medical College and is currently under treatment in the intensive care unit.
The gruesome mass murder took place on February 24. He killed his younger brother, grandmother, uncle, aunt, and friend Farsana.
The murders took place between 10 AM and 6 PM. After carrying out the killings, Affan consumed poison and later surrendered to the police. His mother, who suffered critical injuries, survived after receiving prolonged medical care.
Affan first targeted his grandmother, who was found in a pool of blood at her home in Pangode. He then killed his uncle and aunt at their residence in SN Puram, followed by the murders of his younger brother and girlfriend in Perumal.
