MVD busts inter-state gang issuing fake pollution certificates in Kerala

Kakkanad: The Kerala Motor Vehicles Department (MVD) has uncovered an interstate mafia involved in issuing fake certificates from other states to vehicles that fail the pollution test.
Following an investigation, it was revealed that a two-wheeler, which failed inspection in Ernakulam, obtained a Pollution under Control (PUC) certificate from Uttar Pradesh just four days later.
Initially, the vehicle's owner claimed the certificate was issued by a local centre in Ernakulam. However, upon further inspection, it was evident that the certificate was fraudulently obtained after the vehicle failed the test. Subsequently, the vehicle was taken to a workshop in Pullepady for repairs, where a Uttar Pradesh native facilitated the issuance of a fake certificate through an agent in Rampur RTO.
On Wednesday, the vehicle failed to pass a pollution test conducted by Kerala MVD. As a result, the bike's registration was cancelled. Motor Vehicle Inspector AR Rajesh from the Ernakulam RT Office led the investigation, uncovering similar incidents previously occurring in Kochi. The department also identified another instance where a vehicle that failed inspection in Ernakulam obtained a certificate from Coimbatore on the same day.
