Aluva merchant distributes vegetables for free to cancer patients

Aluva: Though the price of vegetables is skyrocketing, Jeffy Xavier, a vendor in Aluva, distributes the essentials for free to cancer patients. He gives out vegetable kits worth Rs 400 for free at his five vegetable stores in Kathrikadavu, Vyttila, Pulinchode, Athani and Angamali once in a week.

Jeffy keeps a record of the people who regularly visit his stores to ensure they get the items. Around 600 cancer patients reach his store every week for the fee kits.

It all started after Jeffy spotted a man picking spoiled vegetables while he was leaving the store at night years ago. When he asked, the man said that it was difficult for him to meet the expenses of his wife's cancer treatment.

This incident touched his heart and since then he started distributing vegetables for free to cancer patients. He continued his service even during lockdown. Despite the soaring price of vegetables, he did not stop the service.
