Vanitha League’s unique Tea Powder Challenge grabs eyeballs

Kozhikode: The ‘Tea Powder Challenge’ of the women’s wing of the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) has caught the attention of the people. It’s nothing but a fundraising campaign of the party, where individuals are bound to make a contribution of Rs 333 in exchange for a kilogram of tea powder. An exclusive app has been created for the purpose, it is called the ‘Tea Gala Collection Feast’.
The market price for a kilogram of tea powder ranges between Rs 180-Rs 300 depending on the quality. In the case of the tea challenge, barring all the expenses, an average of Rs 150 gets added to the party funds per successful campaign.
The women’s wing is aiming at raising funds amounting to Rs 5 crores in this manner within a month. The money will be used for various purposes of the party. P Kulsu, general secretary of the Vanitha league, expects to befriend people through this unique fundraising method.
It should be noted that a similar IUML fundraising campaign called the ‘Dhoti Challenge’ was a sensational hit. The party raised a staggering amount of Rs 17 crores through the campaign last year. Taking cue from the male counterparts, the female cadres of the party have now set out on a similar mission.
Various political parties/organisations in the state are coming up with unique ways for raising funds every now and then. For example, DYFI, AIYF, Congress and the Youth Congress had launched several innovative fundraising campaigns in the recent past. The ‘Biryani Challenge’ is one among them.
The ‘Biryani Challenge’ executed by a collective named ‘Thanal’ in Vadakara had helped its members to raise Rs 3 crores by providing food to the destitutes sleeping on roads in the major cities across the country. This is just one among the several successful campaigns.
