Eighth-grader in Malappuram rescues two-year-old girl from stream using CPR skills

Valanchery (Malappuram): Quick thinking and courage by an eighth-grade student helped save the life of a two-year-old girl who had fallen into a stream near her home in Malappuram district.
Amal Krishna, son of Anilkumar and Uma of Nechikottil, Thootha, sprang into action when he saw his neighbour’s child, Fathima Rinsha, being swept away by the current of the Pacheeri stream.
The incident occurred when Fatima and her mother, Hasma, joined Amal and his friends for a bath and to wash clothes in the stream. In a brief moment of inattention, the toddler slipped into the water unnoticed. When Hasma realised her daughter was missing, her cries for help drew Amal’s attention.
Without hesitation, the young boy plunged into the stream and began searching. Moments later, he pulled Fathima out of the water, unconscious and not breathing.
A Junior Red Cross cadet at PKMMHSS, Edarikode, Amal immediately administered CPR he had learned at school. After sustained effort, the child began to breathe again. Fatima was then rushed to a private hospital in Valanchery for further treatment.
Teachers and staff hailed Amal’s bravery and composure. “His act of courage and compassion is an inspiration to all students,” said Headmaster Dr Pramod Vazhankara.
PRO K.P. Nassar, Staff Secretary C Sunil, Ishaq Arakkal, Teacher Aswathi Pramod, and JRC Coordinator A Shafna said the school would honour Amal for his heroism.
