VACB seizes Rs 16,450 unaccounted money from Govindapuram Check Post

Palakkad: The Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau (VACB) uncovered Rs 16,450 in bribe money at the Govindapuram Check Post in Palakkad. The illicit cash was concealed within the sleeping mats and hidden compartments inside chairs.
However, only Rs 12,900 through fines were submitted to the state treasury during the past 24 hours. The bribe money was seized from the staff after VACB inspectors observed the activities at the checkpost for about two hours. It was found that officials received bribe money through agents.
The raid was carried out after receiving information about widespread irregularities at the Govindapuram Check Post ahead of the Onam weekend.
Besides cash, VACB also recovered vegetables, fruits, and other food stuffs as bribes. A few days ago, a raid at the Walayar checkpoint unearthed Rs 13,000 in bribe money cleverly stowed away inside the office.
