Thiruvananthapuram: The passenger who locked himself inside the lavatory of the Kasargod-Thiruvananthapuram Vande Bharat Express has ended up creating a loss of around Rs 1 lakh for the railways.

The youngster was taken into custody after breaking open the toilet door once the train reached Shoranur railway station. He was questioned by the RPF officials. Charan, a native of Mangalpady, was apparently suffering from mental health problems.

Charan got into the Vande Bharat Express at Kasaragod on Sunday afternoon. He locked himself up inside the lavatory as he entered the train. He tied the door from inside using his t-shirt. The door functions on a sensor system. However the t-shirt Charan used for locking the toilet door from inside covered the sensor, making it difficult to open the door.

After travelling for around 261 kilometres hiding inside the train’s toilet, the youngster was eventually pulled out of the lavatory by breaking open the metal fabricated lock as the Vande Bharat Express reached Shoranur station.

The unruly act of the youngster has created a loss of Rs 1 lakh for the railways. This includes the cost of the lock system and the allowance that should be paid to the technical staff who helped in pulling out the individual from the lavatory.

He had supposedly hid in the toilet as he did not have money to buy train ticket.
