Uniform Civil Code: KPCC to hold first meeting on July 22 in Kozhikode

Kozhikode: The first public meeting led by KPCC that aims at forming opinions and a general consensus regarding the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) will be held on 22 July in Kozhikode.
Prominent persons from political, social and cultural realms will participate in the event that will commence at 10 in the morning. The meetings that uphold the motto ‘celebrating plurality’ will be held in the three districts of Thiruvananthapuram, Ernakulam and Kozhikode, KPCC President K Sudhakaran had announced earlier.
The first chapter is being held in Kozhikode. KPCC working president MLA T Siddique and DCC president K Praveen Kumar clarified that none of the leftist parties will be invited to this meeting.
CPM’s stand is hypocritical
T Siddique criticized CPM’s stand on the UCC calling it hypocritical and divisive. CPM should first clarify whether it is EMS or M.V Govindan’s stance that is right. The aim behind inviting Muslim League was to create a division in the UDF.
The agenda of the seminar is to bag votes for the next election. CPM views the UCC as a communal issue. CPM is not the doe rather the dracula in this issue, Siddique said.
The Ministers should clarify on what basis Fr Eugene Pereira made a call for riots in Muthalapozhi. Rather, it is the ministers and the government representatives who were trying to create a riot. The minister has insulted christians by saying that churches are collecting unauthorized funds. T Siddique demanded that the ministers should apologize to the general public and christian believers.
