CPI not to attend seminar organized by CPM against Uniform Civil Code

Thiruvananthapuram: CPI has confirmed that it will not attend the seminar organised by CPM against Uniform Civil Code. The CPI maintains that it cannot attend the seminar due to its national council meeting, which is happening concurrently.
However, reports say CPI is not happy with CPM’s apparent pursuit to host the seminar as its own exclusive program and not under the banner of Left Front. CPI expects a united move similar to anti-CAA protests.
Interestingly, CPI district leaders are office-bearers in the organising committee of the seminar. As a result, they will likely to cooperate with CPM, considering the common cause.
CPM’s seminar is slated for July 15. While CPI’s national council is scheduled from July 14 to 16. When CPM intimated about the seminar CPI state secretary Kanam Rajendran informed that they will not be part of the seminar due to the national council.
On the other hand, Rajendran will not attend CPI national council as doctors have advised him to avoid long-distance travel. However, he too will not attend the seminar.
It is learnt that CPM has been trying to rope in some CPI veterans on board for the seminar.
